KrisEnergy names new CEO, interim CEO resigns

KrisEnergy has named Kelvin Tang, chief operating officer (COO) and president of the company’s Cambodian operations, as its new chief executive officer (CEO) effective 1 September 2017.

Jeffrey S. MacDonald, who served as the interim CEO and board executive director since July 2016, has resigned effective 31 August.

Tang joined KrisEnergy in 2009. Prior to KrisEnergy, he was general counsel for Aabar Investments based in Abu Dhabi having held the position of general counsel and company secretary for Pearl Energy between 2005 and 2008.

Between 2003 and 2004, Tang was a legal associate at Wong Partnership LLP and Clifford Chance Wong (a joint law venture between Wong Partnership LLP and Clifford Chance Wong Pte. Ltd.), an associate director (Legal) at Temasek Holdings (2000-2003) and a legal associate in the Technology Practice Group of Rajah & Tann LLP (2000-2002).

He holds a Bachelor of Law from the National University of Singapore and is an advocate and solicitor of the Supreme Court of Singapore. He is also a member of the Association of International Petroleum Negotiators.Tang has been working in the upstream oil and gas industry since 2005 when he joined Pearl Energy Ltd. as general counsel and company secretary.

“The Board of Directors welcomes Kelvin in his new role. Kelvin has been an instrumental member of senior management since KrisEnergy was established in 2009 and led our negotiations with the Cambodian government regarding the Block A petroleum agreement, which was signed on 23 August 2017. The Block A agreement is significant for Cambodia and for KrisEnergy,” Tan Ek Kia, KrisEnergy non-executive chairman said.

Kelvin Tang, COO, said: “I would like to thank the KrisEnergy Board for giving me this opportunity. There remain many challenges ahead and I will be working closely with my colleagues and the Board to execute our development plans and to create value for all stakeholders.”
