Total E&P Norge (Total) has chosen Aptomar’s TCMS collaboration and management system to digitalize and manage environmental monitoring and oil spill detection at its Martin Linge field in the North Sea.

The TCMS will combine subsea, topside and aerial oil spill detection sensors into one common operating picture (COP).

Aptomar will customize, commission and maintain a common operating picture for the environmental monitoring at Martin Linge. The purpose of this dedicated oil spill detection COP is to provide an overview of all available sensor information in relevance for prevention, detection and monitoring of hydrocarbon leakage to sea, all in the same surveillance interface.

The digitalization of the environmental monitoring on Martin Linge will ensure efficient and robust oil spill detection achieved at a lower cost than using conventional methods.

Total has defined the following main objectives for the system:to make all oil spill detection elements, remote sensors, cameras and process sensors accessible to operator’s and other relevant personnel onshore and offshore; and to give a quick overview of the current status of the oils spill detection sensors in one interface

The oil spill detection COP will enable Total to detect significant acute discharges within the required timeframe, and that satisfactory expertise and methods are available for determining the position, extent, quantity and compatibility of unintended discharges.

According to Aptomar, the TCMS oil spill detection COP is the only commercially available system that combines real time data from different stages of the offshore production process with remote and distributed sensors like cameras, radars, wind and current; installed subsea, topside, or aerial. It is able to both predict and detect potential oil spills before any oil reaches the sea, and to detect unintended oil spills released subsea or present on the sea surface.

The contract value was undisclosed.

“Aptomar’s TCMS system has been a preferred solution for operator’s on NCS during a decade. The solution is a part of the digitalization strategy on Martin Linge and will provide Total with a powerful decision support tool for oil spill detection and combating, search and rescue, firefighting, surveillance and security, by integrating real time data from many different sources into one decision support system,” says Håkon Skjelten, Aptomar CEO.
