Oil & Gas UK restructures

Oil & Gas UK has announced a new organisational structure, following a thorough business review.

The revised business model is designed to make sure the leading trade association is in the best shape possible to promote and serve its members’ interests – and remains a clear and consistent voice of the UK’s oil and gas industry, the body said.

Oil & Gas UK has reduced the number of its teams from seven to five.  It has also streamlined the number of work groups it runs for its members by 40% to provide greater focus on industry priorities.

Oil & Gas UK’s five new teams are: 

  • The Upstream Policy team, led by Michael Tholen, which aims to provide members  with strategic guidance to encourage a competitive business environment and  support the  sector in its ambition to maximise economic recovery
  • The Business Excellence team, led by Stephen Marcos Jones, which is instrumental  in creating a thriving business environment, reflected in strong local and  international demand for the industry’s goods and services and is the  membership  hub for the association
  • The HSE team, led by Mick Borwell, which supports members in maintaining their  licence to operate (LTO) in a safe and responsible manner and engages with the  relevant  regulators and stakeholders on LTO issues
  • The External Affairs and Communications team, led by Trisha O’Reilly, which aims  to raise,  promote, and protect the positive profile and reputation of the industry
  • The Finance and Corporate Services team, led by Graham Elgie, which provides a  comprehensive range of services to support the efficient operation and governance  of Oil & Gas UK

The trade association also revealed today a new corporate identity, designed in house, which reflects the changing organisation being put in place.

Oil & Gas UK’s chief executive, Deirdre Michie, said: “The new model, which has been endorsed by Oil & Gas UK’s Audit Committee and Board, allows us to deliver a membership focus with a clearer value proposition. It will also enable us to work even more effectively with industry to develop policy in support of the sector’s specific needs and issues.

“Our vision is to ensure that the UK Continental Shelf becomes the most attractive mature oil and gas province with which to do business and  we have revised our organisation and identified objectives to help us realise that aim.

“We will continually review the effectiveness of the new business model to ensure that it remains fit for purpose.”

Oil & Gas UK’s objectives are:

  • Encourage a competitive business environment that enables the maximisation of economic recovery across the UKCS
  • Deliver an enduring future for the UK’s oil and gas industry, which lasts beyond production from the UKCS
  • Support the industry in ensuring its licence to operate is implemented safely and responsibly
  • Raise, promote and protect the positive profile and reputation of the industry  

Oil & Gas UK’s operator co-chairman Neil McCulloch, president, North Sea at EnQuest PLC, commented: "Oil & Gas UK has taken a proactive step to improve the effectiveness of what is already a highly influential organisation. Oil & Gas UK continues to play an important role, particularly at this critical time, and is now even better placed to support operators and our supply chain in becoming more competitive and in maximising economic recovery of the UK’s hydrocarbon resource.”

Terry Savage, Oil & Gas UK contractor co-chairman and corporate relationship director at Global Energy Group, added: “The newly-restructured Oil & Gas UK is now better placed to address the challenges ahead and is appropriately organised to work with members to secure an enduring future for the sector.”
