UK-based well examination services firm Chris Dykes International has been acquired by Danish well management company WellPerform.

Established by Chris Dykes in 2002, following a career with oil majors and the UK's Health and Safety Executive, the company provides well examination services to a range of oil and gas operators and service companies in the UK and overseas including Apache, Premier Oil, Centrica Energy, Centrica Storage Limited (Rough), Petrogas, Senergy, SPD and AGR.

The firm says the new regulatory environment created by the introduction of the EU Offshore Safety Directive, presents a significant European growth opportunity.

The Directive requires all European countries to have existing and new wells examined by an independent competent person throughout the complete well life cycle, from initial design through to final abandonment. This has been a requirement for wells in the UK since 1996.

The acquisition by WellPerform, set up in Copenhagen in 2005 by Søren Lundgren Jensen, will enable Chris Dykes International to leverage this growth opportunity.

Chris Dykes International will continue to trade as a standalone organization with complete independence from the WellPerform well management business.

Les Browne, former Operations Director at Applied Drilling Technology International Limited (ADTI), has been appointed as Managing Director of Chris Dykes International to work alongside Dykes and drive the growth strategy.

Dykes will continue in his current role as Technical Director and Principal Well Examiner and it will be business as usual for all Chris Dykes International existing customers.

Les Browne, Managing Director said: “I am excited by the opportunity to work alongside Chris to grow the business while remaining focused on providing an excellent service to our customers. While Chris Dykes International and WellPerform will continue to operate as independent businesses, there are strong synergies and complementary services that will undoubtedly support the growth strategy.”

Dykes said: “This investment marks an exciting new chapter for Chris Dykes International, which will enable us to further strengthen and grow the business. I look forward to working closely with WellPerform and with Les, who brings more than 30 years of experience in well engineering, operations and service company leadership to the business.”
