With the spud of the Mengkuang-1 exploration well, in license PM307, Lundin Petroleum has resumed exploration offshore Malaysia.
Lundin says the well will target hydrocarbons in Miocene-aged sands 75km to the northwest of the Lundin-operated Bertam field, which began producing in April 2015.
Mengkuang-1 will be drilled with Seadrill's West Prospero jackup rig to a total depth of approximately 1300m below mean sea level. The drilling of the well is expected to take approximately 30 days.
The West Prospero is under contract with Lundin until May 2016. It is currently under a dayrate of US$156,000. The jackup was built in 2007, and can operate in water depths down to 400ft and drill to depths of 30,000ft.
Lundin Malaysia holds 75% working interest in PM307. Its partner is PETRONAS holds the remaining 25%.
