Paradigm Flow Services has successfully completed a deluge remediation and replacement project for Apache North Sea in the Forties field.

The remediation work was carried out as part of the company’s Deluge Integrity Management service on four of the Forties assets.  The team undertook a variety of work to ensure the lifetime of the system including internal pipework cleaning, providing temporary fire cover, conducting valve replacement work, cleaning drains and parts and then testing the system with air and water.

Paradigm also completed hydraulic modeling to verify that all changes were accurately captured and updated technical drawings to reflect the current system design. Due to the scale of the project the work took three years to complete. However, it was undertaken with no lost time incidents and very minimal disruption to ongoing operations on the platforms.

On the Echo platform, Paradigm undertook a separate scope of work which included a deluge replacement project.  This involved a remediation campaign to return all 3in and above pipework back to its original condition, reducing unnecessary costs, and then the replacement of all small bore pipework with a like for like substitute. The project was anticipated to be completed within 90 days, however Paradigm completed the works ahead of schedule in 81 days saving Apache in budget and bed space.

In addition to the remediation and replacement work, Paradigm has also produced an asset integrity plan which they will manage alongside other elements such as control of nozzle stock as part of a two year contract for further work scopes on the Forties and Beryl fields. This gives the client the peace of mind that the longer term life of the asset is being cared for and the deluge systems will continue to be fully compliant.

Rob Bain, managing director of Paradigm Flow Services, said: “Our team has worked closely with Apache during the completion of these scopes of work and built a strong relationship with them. We are looking forward to building on this as we continue providing services as part of our Deluge Integrity Management Service which applies to the lifetime of safety critical fire water systems. Our technical experts will support the client in achieving an efficient and HSE compliant life-of-field solution for fire safety, underpinned by an annual MOT to ensure ongoing effectiveness.”

Paradigm moved to a new office in Drumoak last year. The new site provides test services with firewater deluge, subsea systems, specialist industrial cleaning and pressure testing facilities available for oil and gas companies to utilize for trials and training purposes.

It also allows Paradigm to showcase its technologies for blockage remediation including deluge integrity management, Pipe-Pulse and Flexi-Coil Extended Reach, in a replicated offshore environment.
