Drydocks wins Layang FPSO turret contract

Thursday, May 14, 2015

Drydocks World is to build an external turret mooring systems for JX Nippon’s Layang field floating production vessel offshore Malaysia.

Under a contract with UK-based naval architects Orwell Offshore, Dubai-based Dydocks World is expected to supply the turret system by Q1 2016.

The Layang development, in Block SK10 offshore Sarawak, was approved in May last year. The field is about 8km east of the producing Helang gas field.

The floating production storage and offloading (FPSO) vessel is expected to have an initial estimated incremental production of Helang/Layang gas of about 100 MMscf/d and Helang condensate/Layang oil/Layang condensate to be about 7000 b/d.

Natural Gas produced from Layang, together with Helang field gas, is planned to be supplied through subsea pipelines of approximately 200km long to the MLNG Tiga Sdn. Bhd. liquefaction plant in Bintulu, Sarawak, which is partly owned by Japan’s JX Nippon. The natural gas will be sold as LNG after liquefaction, while the condensate and Layang oil is planned to be shipped from the FPSO.

Drydocks World has already delivered four turret systems for FPSOs and FSRUs. It is currently working towards completion of the Prelude FLNG turret system for Shell – currently the largest turret system in the world.

“The external turret for Orwell Offshore will deliver significant improvements in operational effectiveness and weathervaning capabilities on FPSO Layang, enabling FPSO operations in water depths of up to 90m,” says Drydocks.
