Sonardyne has announced that Seatronics is to take delivery of US$1.54 million worth of its 6G acoustic positioning technology. The contract was displayed at the Subsea Expo 2015 exhibition and conference in Aberdeen.

The 6G equipment ordered by Seatronics is headed for West Africa to support the survey and construction phases of a new field development project. The multi-functional Compatt 6 transponders and Ranger 2 USBL (Ultra-Short BaseLine) positioning systems that make up the order will be utilized for a variety of subsea operations including structure installation, pipeline metrology, ROV tracking and touchdown monitoring.

The Ranger 2 systems are being supplied with Sonardyne’s Gyro-USBL transceiver. GyroUSBL can be set to work without the need for calibration procedures to determine the alignment of the ship’s motion sensors to the acoustic transceiver prior to use.

Commenting at Subsea Expo 2015, Phil Middleton, Seatronic’s Deputy Managing Director for Subsea Rentals said, “Seatronics are pleased to confirm our latest million pound-plus investment in Sonardyne 6G. This equipment adds to the largest rental stock of 6G equipment available globally and is in place to support committed client projects due to mobilize this spring.”

Paul Griffiths, Sales Manager at Sonardyne said, “We’re delighted to make this announcement, our second in as many days. 6G’s performance and cost-saving benefits means it is the standard specified by many oil companies and their contractors for new and existing field development projects. This latest order from Seatronics reaffirms their commitment to meet this global demand.”
