MAN Diesel and Turbo picked up another order for its MAN 51/60DF engine.
An international consortium that includes Teekay LNG Partners has selected a dual-fuel diesel electric propulsion solution featuring 2×12V51/60DF + 2×8L51/60DF engines for each of four liquid natural gas carriers (LNGC).
The new order follows MAN Diesel and Turbo’s July 2013 contract to supply 30 MAN 51/60DF dual-fuel engines for six LNGCs.
The engines from both orders will be produced at MAN Diesel and Turbo’s Augsburg, Germany facility with delivery scheduled during 2015. They are IMO Tier II-compliant in diesel mode with lower exhaust emissions in gas mode than required by IMO Tier III.
All new LNG carriers, including those from the July 2013 order, will be constructed at Hudong-Zhonghua shipyard in Shanghai, China’s only builder of large LNG carriers.
Following delivery between September 2017 and January 2019, the ships will support the shipment of LNG cargoes from BG Group’s Queensland Curtis Island LNG project.
