China’s BGP Pioneer completed Perenco Oil & Gas Gabon 3D seismic acquisition project of approximately 1500sq km offshore Gabon.

The project included undershoot operations between platforms and was to be run in water depth varying between depth between 15 to 55m.

The project was completed using three seismic vessels: the BGP Pioneer, the Explorer, and the Prospector; BGP supply 2 boat and the MV Maria and Admiraal de Ruiter.

The shallow survey area of 15 to 20m bathymetry depth contour, was completed in 15 days using the BGP Explorer.

The larger survey area of approximately 1370sq km of water depth between 20 to 55m was acquired by the BGP Pioneer, trailing an array of 6*6km spread. Undershoot operations and close approaches to obstructions were run with BGP Prospector as source vessel, and BGP Pioneer as recording vessel. Acquisition within the larger survey area was achieved after 78 days.

Including Perenco, six other companies were selected in July by the Republic of Gabon’s Ministry of Petroleum to participate in a final round of negotiations for deepwater blocks in the offshore licensing tender round from October 2013. Those seven companies were ranked highest after bidding for a total of nine blocks.
