Oil & Gas UK has published three new guidance documents on the management of ageing and life extension (ALE) of oil and gas installations on the UK Continental Shelf (UKCS).

The technical guidance documents focus on three specific topic areas; offshore structures; floating production installations: electrical, control & instrumentation. The guidance supplements ALE management system level guidance published by Oil & Gas UK in April 2012.

Robert Paterson, Oil & Gas UK’s health, safety, skills and employment issues director said: “The publication of these three documents is the culmination of considerable effort on the part of work groups comprising member companies’ technical specialists and Health and Safety Executive (HSE) inspectors. They add to the current body of knowledge and experience available to the industry to ensure that our offshore installations remain safe and operationally viable throughout their life cycles. The HSE’s Key Programme 4 (KP4) has drawn to a close but the joint focus on ageing and life extension by the industry and Regulators will be maintained. These guidance documents help provide a robust foundation for long-term integrity management activities”.

The publication of the guidance documents coincides with the release of the HSE’S final report from KP4, launched at an Oil & Gas UK seminar in Aberdeen yesterday.
