SapuraKencana Petroleum Berhad's drilling division, SapuraKencana Drilling, has won a new contract and three contract extensions, worth a total of US$454 million, from new and existing clients in West Africa (Congo and Angola), Brunei, and Thailand.

The new contract in Congo, worth $108 million, was awarded to the group's Singapore-based SapuraKencana Drilling Pte by Total E&P Congo for the charter of its semi-tender assist drilling rig SKD Berani for one year, with an option for an

extension of another year. Total Congo contracted SKD Berani for its work over and development drilling campaign offshore Congo. This contract starts in April 2014 and lasts until March 2015.

In Angola, SapuraKencana Drilling won a $164 million two-year contract extension from Cabinda Gulf Oil Company (or Chevron Angola) for the provision of its tender assist drilling rig SKD Setia to be used for development drilling campaigns offshore Cabinda, Angola. The contract extension is for a period of two years, starting in August 2014, and lasting until July 2016.

"The new contract win from Total Congo and the contract extension from Chevron Angola further strengthens the Group's geographical diversity in its operations and solidifies our West African presence – a key growth area for us," said SapuraKencana President and Group CEO, Tan Sri Dato' Seri Shahril Shamsuddin.

In Thailand, SapuraKencana Drilling won a two-year contract extension worth $90 million with Chevron Thailand Exploration and Production, for the provision of its tender assist drilling rig SKD T-12 for development drilling in the Gulf of Thailand. The contract extension started in March 2014, and lasts until March 2016.

In Brunei, SapuraKencana Drilling has accepted a two-year contract extension valued at $92 million with Brunei Shell Petroleum Co Sdn Berhad (Brunei Shell) for the provision of an offshore drilling rig and services by its semi-tender assist drilling rig SKD Pelaut. The contract extension is for two years, starting in April 2015, and lasting until March 2017. The SKD Pelaut will continue to be used for development drilling campaigns offshore Brunei.

"This latest round of new business adds $454 million to the Group's order book. It also cements SapuraKencana Drilling's position as the predominant global tender assist drilling contractor, trusted by leading oil and gas majors," added Tan Sri Dato' Seri Shahril.
