CDI Energy Products recently announced the official release of its updated OptiSeal design guide for spring-energized sealing solutions at OTC in Houston, Texas.

The 23 page, full-color design guide aids in the design and configuration of OptiSeal systems, assisting end users in the selection of materials, seal geometries, and spring-energizers for application compatibility. As a versatile sealing solution, common upstream oil and gas applications include valves, pumps, and downhole tools, as well as wellheads and BOP components.

For nearly 40 years, CDI has offered a range of customized sealing solutions for applications found in the upstream oil and gas industry. The OptiSeal system is available as singular sealing components or packing configurations and assemblies.

“The updated OptiSeal design guide will assist engineers as they design sealing systems capable of solving complex challenges,” Kurt Hayden, director of technology for the Fenner Advanced Sealing Technologies division said.

OptiSeal components can be customized from a range of API, NACE, ISO, and NORSOK-approved materials as per the specific needs of a given application. Found in stem packing, firesafe assemblies, or available as seat seals, each OptiSeal component can be designed for issues such as differential pressures, potential misalignment, and extrusion gaps, as well as static and dynamic applications.

“This design guide is an example of how we strive to provide our customers with the tools required to design performance-critical components that enhance their products,” Stephen Smith, P.E., CDI Energy Products engineering manager said.
