GE will supply Mitsui Ocean Development Engineering Co. Ltd. (MODEC) with four LM2500+G4 aeroderivative gas turbine packages for a new floating production, storage and offloading (FPSO) platform. The FPSO, owned and operated by MODEC, will be installed in 2,240 m of water depth in the pre-salt fields offshore Brazil. The value of the contract was not disclosed.
“GE previously sold 27 aero derivative units to MODEC for installation offshore Brazil and West Africa, and we were able to leverage those successes to win this new award,” said Darryl Wilson, vice president and chief commercial officer—distributed power for GE Power & Water. “Utilizing a well-established design, we were able to compress our execution schedule and provide the aggressive delivery needed for a successful project.”
GE's LM2500+G4 offshore gas turbine-generator packages offer a reduced weight and compact solution for installation on floating facilities. These packages are specifically built for rugged offshore/near shore applications with all necessary oil and gas standards for safety, durability and reliability.
The units for the FPSO will provide electricity for the entire vessel, including critical processing operations. They will be shipped to the shipyard in 3Q 2013 and will operate on natural gas with liquid fuel as a backup.
Also GE announced a US$147 million contract awarded by Statoil for GE supply subsea production and injection equipment for Statoil’s Snohvit carbon dioxide (CO2) injection project, designed to provide a robust CO2 solution.
