Eni Makes Discovery Offshore Indonesia

Italian oil and gas company Eni has discovered more gas near the Merakes field offshore Indonesia.

Eni said on Wednesday it successfully drilled a well in the East Sepinggan block offshore Kalimantan to a depth of 3,400 m MD in 1,592 m of water depth and encountered 15 meters of gas bearing net sands in two distinct levels of Miocene Age.

A production test was limited by surface facilities, but recorded an "excellent" gas deliverability of the reservoir, and allowed for the collection of data to perform studies required for submitting a field development plan. Analysis of the data show that the well can deliver 70 mmscfd of gas and 1000 bbld of associated condensates in production configuration.

The prospect is located 33 km southeast from the Eni-operated Jangkrik field and just 3 km east of the Merakes Field, whose development plan investments were approved very recently, in line with near field exploration. Eni said the new discovery's proximity to Merakes will allow it to maximize the synergies among the subsea infrastructures and help it to reduce time and costs associated with future subsea development.

Eni, which has been operating in Indonesia since 2001, has a large portfolio of assets in exploration, production and development in the country. The Italian company is the operator of East Sepinggan Contract Area through its subsidiary Eni East Sepinggan Limited which holds an 85 percent Participating Interest while PT Pertamina Hulu Energi East Sepinggan holds the remaining 15 percent.

Production activities are located in the Kutei Basin, East Kalimantan, mainly through the Jangkrik field, in the Muara Bakau working area, that delivers production in excess of 650 mmscfd.
