TechnipFMC announced Monday it has been awarded a large integrated engineering, procurement, construction, transportation and installation (iEPCI) contract by operator Eni for the Merakes project, located offshore Balikpapan Indonesia, at a water depth of approximately 1,500 meters.
This contract, which TechnipFMC said is worth between $500 million and $1 billion, covers five deepwater wells, and their 50-kilometer tie back to the existing Jangkrik Floating Production Unit in Indonesia. The project scope includes engineering, procurement, installation and pre-commissioning of subsea equipment such as subsea trees, a manifold, large bore deepwater high pressure flexible lines, umbilicals and distribution hardware, flexible risers, flowlines and jumpers.

In April 2018 Eni announced the approval of the Plan of Development (POD) for the Merakes field located in the East Sepinggan PSC, offshore East Kalimantan, Indonesia. The authorization for the investment plan was sanctioned by the company’s Board of Directors in December 2018. Startup is expected in the second half of 2020.
The Merakes field (Eni 85%, operator), is estimated to hold about 2 trillion cubic feet of lean gas in place, 35 kilometers southwest of the Jangkrik floating production unit (FPU). The proximity of Merakes discovery to the Jangkrik FPU will allow Eni to maximize the synergies with existing nearby infrastructures as well as to reduce costs and time of the execution of this second deep water development in Indonesia.
The Merakes development project consists in the drilling and construction of subsea wells with a dedicated transportation system. The gas production will be shipped to the Bontang LNG plant using also all the other existing facilities of Jangkrik field as well as the East Kalimantan transportation network.
