Norwegian oil company Equinor has received consent to drill exploration well 7335/3-1 in production licence 859 in the Barents Sea, Norway's offshore safety watchdog, the Petroleum Safety Authority, said on Thursday.
Well 7335/3-1, known as Korpfjell Deep, is in the far northeast of an opened area in the southeast Barents Sea, around 420 kilometers off the coast of Finnmark, Norway. Water depth at the site is 239 meters.
The well is to be drilled by the Seadrill semisubmersible drilling facility West Hercules, which received an Acknowledgement of Compliance (AoC) from the PSA in 2012. Drilling is scheduled to begin in early May 2019 and estimated to last 55 days.
Equinor is operator and opns 30% interest in license 859. Its partners include DNO and Petoro, each with 20% stakes, and ConocoPhillips and Lundin, with 15% each.
