Aberdeen-headquartered drilling and engineering contractor KCA Deutag confirmed Wednesday that it has been awarded an extension to its existing contract with CNOOC for the Scott platform, which it operates in the UK North Sea.

The contract extension, which is for the provision of drilling operations and maintenance services, came into effect on March 1, 2019, and has an initial term of four years plus a two year extension option.

Rune Lorentzen, President of Offshore said, "The UK North Sea continues to be an important area of activity for us and we are committed to working with our partners to ensure that we make the most of the substantial reserves we still have in the UK basin.

"We have been the drilling contractor on the Scott platform since 1992 and are delighted with the commitment to retain us once again."

The Scott platform, located about 188 kilometers northeast of Aberdeen in 142 meters water depth, came on stream in 1993 and produces crude oil and natural gas from the Scott, Telford and Rochelle fields.

KCA Deutag is currently the drilling operations contractor on 39 offshore platforms worldwide and owns and operates a fleet of mobile offshore drilling units consisting of two jack-ups and three self erecting tender barges. The company also owns and operates a fleet of more than 60 land drilling rigs.
