OMV to Appraise Hades/Iris

Tuesday, May 7, 2019

OMV has been given the green light to drill exploration wells 6506/11-11 S and 6506/11-11 A on the Halten Terrace in the Norwegian Sea.

The wells are in production licence 644/644 B containing the high-pressure, high-temperature gas/condensate Hades and Iris discoveries, made via the Aerosmith well last year (2018).

The latest wells - an appraisal and a side-track - will be drilled using Odfjell Drilling's Deepsea Bergen Aker H-3.2 type semisubmersible drilling rig in about 381 metres water depth, starting in Q2. The Deepsea Bergen was also used on the Hades/Iris (previously known as Aerosmith an Zappa) discovery well.

The Iris and Hades discoveries are about 8 kilometres to the north of the producing Morvin field and 20 kilometres to the northwest of the Åsgard complex. Partner Faroe Petroleum, recently subject of a takeover by DNO, has estimated reserves in the 63-322 MMboe range in Hades/Iris.
