Aker BP is gearing up to drill its Freke-Garm exploration well in the Norwegian sector of the North Sea using Odfjell Drilling's Deepsea Stavanger semisubmersible drilling rig.
Norway's Petroleum Safety Authority (PSA) authorised the well, 15/6-15, in 109 metres water depth in block 15/6, south-east of the Gudrun field and north-west of the Gina Krog field, on Tuesday.
The well is in production licence 814, for which Aker BP is the operator. Aker BP has estimated that the drilling will last 28 days. The planned start-up is May 2019.
Meanwhile, the PSA also authorised Equinor to use the Maersk Intrepid mobile facility as living quarters on the Martin Linge field, from 30 June to 31 December 2019. Martin Linge field is under development and Equinor has previously been given consent to use Maersk Intrepid as living quarters during work on the field.
Maersk Intrepid is a jack-up drilling facility, completed by Keppel Shipyard in Singapore in 2014. The facility is owned by Maersk and operated by Maersk Drilling Norge.
