Siccar Point 'Encouraged' by Blackrock Results

Siccar Point Energy CEO Jonathan Roger said he is “encouraged” by drilling results at the Blackrock exploration well 204/5b-2 in the West of Shetland.

The well was drilled with Diamond Offshore’s Ocean GreatWhite semi-submersible rig on Licence P1830 in 1,115 meters of water, 10 kilometers north of the Siccar Point operated Cambo field, the Aberdeen based company announced on Tuesday.

The Blackrock licence is located 140 kilometers northwest of Shetland, directly between the Rosebank and Cambo oil fields in the Corona Ridge area.

The target of the well was the intravolcanic Paleocene Flett reservoirs of the Colsay Member which lie on-trend with equivalent oil filled sandstones in the Rosebank field. The well encountered a 34 meters gross package of intra-volcanic siliciclastic sediments which contained a number of thin oil bearing sandstones from which oil samples were obtained. Gas was also encountered in the overlying Hildasay supravolcanic Member.

The well has proven the existence of intra-volcanic charged reservoirs between the Cambo and Rosebank fields. The well results will now be incorporated with existing regional data to better define and target thicker reservoir packages.

“I am very encouraged by this well result and look forward to further exploring this material exploration play with our partners,” Roger said in a statement on Tuesday.

The P1830 partnership are Siccar Point (52.5%), Suncor (25%) and Shell (22.5%).

Siccar Point's drilling campaign using Ocean GreatWhite is expected to take around five months and also includes the Lyon exploration prospect North of Shetland.
