NOV to Supply STP for MJ FPSO

Wednesday, July 3, 2019

APL, a business unit within NOV's Completion & Production Solutions segment, has secured the contract from South Korean builder Samsung Heavy Industries to supply a large submerged turret production (STP) system for a newbuild floating production storage and offloading unit (FPSO) being constructed for the Reliance Industries operated MJ field offshore India.

NOV didn't reveal a value for its contract, but Samsung's deal is said to be worth about $960 million, according to World Energy Reports.

The MJ field is a major deepwater gas and condensate project off India's east coast in the Bay of Bengal. The specific location of the STP will be in Block KG-D6 (KG-DWN-98/3) in Krishna Godavari Basin, in water depths between 600 and 1,200 meters, NOV said.

The FPSO will have production capability for 450 mmcf/d gas and 30,000 b/d liquids, World Energy Reports says.

The STP system is a flexible turret mooring system for FPSO vessels. The STP swivel, which is mounted on top of the turret buoy, transfers oil, water, gas, signals, and power from the geostationary riser system to the piping and cabling system of the freely weather-vaning production vessel.
