Fluid transfer systems provider FES International said it has secured four new orders to deliver is Diver Bend Stiffener Connectors (DBSCs) to projects across Asia, Africa and Europe.
The 31 DBSCs will be supplied for projects taking place in the Johan Castberg field in the Barents Sea, Norway; the Vorlich field in the North Sea, UK; the Liuhua field in the South China Sea; and the Zinia 2 field on the Atlantic Coast in Angola. The deliveries will take place throughout 2019 and 2020.
FES International said its DBSC design enables the installation of bend stiffeners in often very congested and confined spaces with little, or no, subsea intervention at all. This is due to the patented automatic end fitting release system that allows for the connection of the bend stiffener and release of the umbilical without subsea intervention, the manufacturer said.

“Each project we work on is unique and there are often bespoke design requirements, time frames and complex challenges we have to work around. We approach each with a fresh perspective and collaborate with our customers to ensure we meet stringent specifications.”
The delivery of the Johan Castberg order was critical to ensure a key project milestone was met. With 19 DBSCs ordered for this project, and multiple vendors involved, FES had to closely control and monitor the supply chain to ensure a timely completion.
Anderson continued, “With the Liuhua project we were presented with challenges related to high design loads. By collaborating closely with the customer, our team came up with an alternative design to one of the connections to provide a solution.”
Included in the scope of work for the Vorlich project were bespoke tests at the company’s facilities in the North of England, including stimulated installation and loading tests as well as full fit and function checks.
