UK independent Hurricane Energy announced it has struck oil in its Lincoln Crestal well West of Shetland.
Responding to speculation around flaring from the Transocean Leader drilling rig, the company issued a statement confirming that a drill stem test on the Lincoln Crestal well (205/26b-14) produced oil to surface, resulting in a flare.
The well was shut-in on Sunday afternoon to enable a planned pressure build-up test, Hurricane Energy said.
The company said it will share initial results, including flow rates and oil type, following completion of the ongoing testing phase.
Hurricane spud Lincoln Crestal on July 12 as part of a three-well program on its Lincoln and Warwick assets - the Greater Warwick Area.
