TVO, DRT to Collaborate on 'Novel' Offshore Wind Support Structures

Wednesday, August 25, 2021

U.S. firm Trendsetter Vulcan Offshore (TVO) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Deep Reach Technology (DRT) to work on the development of what TVO said would be "novel support structures for large offshore wind turbines."

"TVO and DRT are currently pursuing projects together including grants to develop floating and deepwater wind concepts. The initial projects focus on designs for very large fixed-bottom and floating offshore wind turbines with the goal of achieving economies of scale to expedite offshore wind energy development," TVO said.

DRT Co-founder and Chairman John Halkyard said the collaboration with TVO would contribute to the goal of providing offshore platform technology "to enable greater renewable power from the oceans."

Earlier this year Deep Reach Technology received a grant from the National Offshore Wind R&D Consortium for its project called "Application of Novel Offshore Oil & Gas Platforms to Large Wind Turbines."
