Ongoing storms in the North Sea have seen another vessel break loose and start drifting.
According to reports on Norwegian news sites, the Safe Bristolia flotel, which was being towed from the UK to Poland, is drifting about 120km offshore Scotland, but is not close to any facilities and is not posing a risk. it is reported to have 33 people on board.
The news comes as storms continue to batter the UK and the North Sea in the wake of Storm Frank, which saw one person die and two more injured when a wave broke over the COSL Innovator semisubmersible drilling rig offshore Norway on December 30.
Production was shut it at ConocoPhillips’ Eldfisk and Embla fields and BP’s Valhall fields on December 31, when a the semisubmersible barge, Eide Barge 33, which was being towed across the North Sea, started drifting near them.
ConocoPhillips has since restored production at the Eldfisk and Embla fields and BP was also due to have restored production at Valhall. Both fields are in the southern sector of the Norwegian North Sea.
