Wintershall to cut Skarfjell costs 40%

Published

German operator Wintershall has delayed a decision on concept selection for its Skarfjell project offshore Norway in order to slash 40% of the costs from the project.

Wintershall said this will see a decision made in Q3-Q4 this year, rather than Q1 as expected.

Production could start in 2021, through a tie-back to the Gjoa platform, operated by GDF Suez, or in 2022 with a new floating production, storage and offloading vessel, the firm said.

Skarfjell was discovered by Wintershall in 2012, is about 15km southwest of the Gjøa platform, and about 130km northwest of Bergen.

A first appraisal well in the northern part of Skarfjell proved an extension of the field to the north, and suggested 60-160MM boe resources, the firm said in 2014.
