FMC Technologies established a joint industry program focused on developing a new generation of standardized subsea production equipment and systems, the company has announced.
The JIP, which includes Anadarko Petroleum, BP, ConocoPhillips, and Shell, will focus on "[meeting] the challenges of producing oil and gas from deepwater reservoirs with pressures of up to 20,000psi and temperatures of 350°F at the mudline," FMC said (21 July).
FMC Technologies Chairman, President and CEO, John Gremp, called the agreement a "clear illustration" of how companies can work together to solve industry challenges.
"By working together collaboratively, we will continue to achieve technological innovations that will enable us to safely develop some of the world's most promising fields and take a large step toward providing new oil and natural gas resources to consumers and superior returns to stakeholders," Gremp said.
FMC Technologies is already working closely with BP's Project 20K, which seeks to develop technologies in areas such as well design and completions, drilling rigs, riser and blowout prevention equipment, subsea production systems, and well intervention and containment. FMC's Project 20K scope, which was announced in November 2012, includes the joint development of 20,000psi-rated subsea production equipment, including a subsea production tree and a subsea high integrity pressure protection system.
