CNOOC encountered oil and gas at its deepwater Lingshui 25-1 prospect in the Qiongdongnan Basin in the South China Sea, the operator confirmed on 6 January 2015.
The well was tested to produce about 35.6 MMcf/d of natural gas and 395 b/d of oil. The Lingshui 25-1 structure is northeast of Ledong Sag at an average water depth of 980m. The Lingshui 25-1-1 discovery well was drilled and completed at 4000m deep and encountered the oil and gas pay zone with a total thickness of about 73m, the Chinese national said.
Lingshui 25-1 follows the Lingshui 17-2 discovery from March 2014. The company said the Lingshui 17-2 discovery area proved good exploration prospects in the deepwater Qiongdongnan Basin in the northern South China Sea.
In November, CNOOC hit 150m of oil pay at the Lufeng14-4 structure in the eastern South China Sea, in the Pearl River Mouth Basin. The company drilled the Lufeng 14-4-1 well to 4098m in water 145m deep. Oil production tested at approximately 1320 b/d, CNOOC said.
In October, the company found oil and gas pay zones of 68.4m thickness at the Jinzhou 23-2-3 well in Bohai Bay.
