Bechtel and TechnipFMC have been awarded front end engineering and design (FEED) contracts for Abu Dhabi National Oil Company's (ADNOC) offshore ultra-sour gas project in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
The project comprises the Hail, Ghasha and Dalma fields. Bechtel's UK business has won the Hail and Ghasha FEED Contract and TechnipFMC's UAE unit was awarded Dalma FEED Contract.
The project, in Abu Dhabi's northwest offshore area, could meet 20% of the UAE’s gas demand by the 2H of the next decade, says ADNOC.
The Hail, Gasha and Dalma project taps into Abu Dhabi’s Arab formation, which is estimated to hold multiple trillions of cubic feet of recoverable gas. The Hail, Ghasha and Dalma project is expected to produce more than 1 Bcf/d.
ADNOC is also near to awarding five technology licensor contracts, covering a gas treatment licensor; a sulphur recovery unit (SRU) licensor; a natural gas liquids (NGL) licensor; a condensates recovery (hydro treaters) licensor and a hydrogen generation licensor, which it says are critical to the successful execution of the FEED phase.
From the start of the FEED phase, ADNOC says it will implement, for the first time, an integrated project delivery (IPD) approach, to reduce project development schedule and cost by involving all relevant stakeholders.
The FEED contracts follows the award of the project management consultancy and artificial islands design and survey contracts to Artelia and KBR, formerly Kellogg Brown and Root.
