Swedish headquartered Lundin Petroleum has started drilling on the Hurri prospect in the southern Barents Sea, offshore Norway.
Exploration well 7219/12-3, in PL533, is about 2 km southwest of the Filicudi oil discovery and south of the Statoil-operated Johan Castberg development.
The main objective of the well is to test the reservoir properties and hydrocarbon potential of the Jurassic Hekkingen and Stø formations. Hurri is estimated to contain gross unrisked prospective resources of 218 MMboe.
The well will be drilled using the Leiv Eiriksson semisubmersible drilling rig. Drilling is expected to take about 50 days.
Lundin Norway is operator with 35% interest, with partners Aker BP (35%) and DEA Norge (30%).
