Decommissioning industry trade organization Decom North Sea has appointed an interim CEO following the appointment of Roger Esson to the Oil & Gas Technology Centre.
Interim Decom North Sea CEO Dr Tom Leeson (pictured, right) will start immediately, which is just one working day before the group's annual Offshore Decommissioning Conference in St Andrews (November 27-29), to which OE is a media sponsor.
Leeson has nearly 30 years’ industry experience, 15 of which have included activity within the decommissioning sector. Since 2014, Leeson has focused solely on the decommissioning business, most recently as well abandonment Global Business Manager for Halliburton, and as Principal Consultant: Well Abandonment for Aberdeen-based Reverse Engineering Services.
A former vice chair of Decom North Sea's board, Leeson's relationship with the organization dates back to 2011, when he initially took on the role of board director. He says: “The challenges facing the sector are very well known to me and I will be working directly with our strategic partners as we continue to play a vital part in solution development, cross-sector learning and in building supply chain capability.
“I look forward to meeting our members at next week’s Offshore Decommissioning Conference and during the coming months, as we lead the development of efficient and effective decommissioning within the context of Maximising Economic Recovery in the North Sea.”
Jointly hosted by industry bodies Decom North Sea and Oil & Gas UK, the conference expects to welcome over 450 delegates.
From an environmental perspective, the agenda will consider the impact of OSPAR Decision 98/3 on its 20th anniversary; it will also highlight the continued importance of cross-sector learning via the nuclear and marine salvage sectors.
A focus upon market intelligence - including an overview of Oil & Gas UK’s Decommissioning Insight 2017 - will investigate future local and global supply chain opportunities, whilst consideration of both mature basin management and current well plugging and abandonment activity will provide insight into the opportunities currently available.
The conference will also focus on collaboration with contributions from operators, offshore and onshore members of the supply chain.
Esson (pictured, left), who took over as CEO of Decom North Sea in May last year, replacing Brian Nixon, who had helped to establish the group, is to join the Oil & Gas Technology Centre (OGTC) as its Decommissioning Solution Centre Manager.
Esson has more than 20 years of oil and gas industry leadership experience in the UK and internationally.
He has been involved in the execution of several major decommissioning projects including North West Hutton and Brent Delta.
Reporting to Colette Cohen, CEO of the OGTC, Roger will lead the Decommissioning Solution Centre, working in partnership with the industry and technology providers to accelerate the pace of new technologies to drive value and efficiency in this growing area of the industry.
