TEN development drilling to resume in 2018

Tullow Oil plans to resume development drilling at the TEN (Tweneboa, Enyenra, Ntomme) field offshore Ghana in early 2018 after a drilling moratorium related to a boundary dispute was lifted, partner Kosmos Energy reported today (6 November).

Tullow had originally planned to resume drilling at the end of this year, Dallas-based Kosmos said in a 6 November press statement on its Q3 2017 earnings. The additional drilling will allow Tullow to ramp up production with additional wells to the FPSO capacity of 80,000 bo/d. Production from TEN in the third quarter averaged approximately 60,000 bo/d.

The Special Chamber of the International Tribunal of the Law of the Sea (ITLOS) issued in September its final decision in the maritime boundary dispute between the governments of Ghana and Côte d'Ivoire. The maritime boundary delimited by the Special Chamber’s decision had no impact on the TEN field’s production or reserves or otherwise on the company’s interests in Ghana.

Tullow holds 41.175% interest in the TEN project, which started production in August 2016. Partners are Kosmos (17%), Anadarko (17%), GNPC (15%), Petro SA (3.825%).

Kosmos also estimates efforts to stabilize the turret of the Jubilee floating production storage and offloading (FPSO) vessel offshore Ghana, as well as rotate the FPSO, will require two shutdowns in early 2018, or approximately four weeks of downtime. Planning for the rotation of the vessel to its optimal heading is ongoing, with work expected to begin around year-end 2018.

Following the spread mooring of the FPSO at its current heading in late February, optimization of the offtake procedures has allowed the Jubilee field to regularly produce in excess of 100,000 bo/d.

In mid-October, the partnership received approval for the Greater Jubilee Full Field Development Plan (GJFFDP) from the government of Ghana. The approval of the GJFFDP establishes a price for gas sales and allows for drilling to resume in 2018, which is expected to increase production, extend the field production profile, and allow the company to book additional proved reserves, Kosmos said in the statement.

Tullow also is operator of Jubilee with 35.48% interest. Kosmos holds 24.08% interest. Other partners include Anadarko (24.08%), GNPC (13.64%), and Petro SA (2.73%).
