Mexico's National Hydrocarbons Commission (CNH) announced today that 25 companies have askes to sign up for the next deepwater round, Round 2.4, to be held on 31 January 2018.
The companies that have signed up include those that have participated in previous rounds such as BHP, Total, Murphy, Ophir, Repsol, Statoil and ONGC.
Round 2.4 will offer 29 contractual areas; 9 in the Perdido (offshore Tamaulipas), 10 in the Mexican Cordilleras (offshore Veracruz), and 10 in the Salina Basin (offshore Veracruz and Tabasco states). Perdido's blocks contain mostly light or super light oil prospects. The Cordilleras contain mostly gas (wet and dry) prospects with some light oil. Seven of 10 prospects in the Salina Basin contain heavy oil opportunities.
The bid round will also include the farm-out of Pemex's Maximino-Nobilis deepwater block.
CNH announced the farm-out opportunity earlier this year. Maximino-Nobilis sits in 3000m water depth in the Perdido Fold Basin, 26km from the Great White, and 40km from the Trion discoveries. A total of nine wells have been drilled on the 1524sq km Maximino-Nobilis area, which is thought to contain 3P reserves of 502 MMboe of light oil, and estimated production of 300,000 b/d. The Maximino field has been previously described by Pemex as "the crown jewel."
