Nexans inks 3000km cable contract with HHI for Nasr Phase II, UAE

French cabling firm Nexans has been chosen to supply 3000km cables for the Nasr Phase II full field development project offshore Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates.

The Nasr field is a large oil field about 130km northwest of Abu Dhabi. The Nasr Phase II projects aims to almost triple the field’s oil production capacity to 65,000 b/d.

The second package of the Nasr Phase II Full Field Development Project involves the installation of a multi-platform super complex integrating a gas treatment platform, a separation platform, an accommodation platform, utilities, flares, and bridges.

All engineering, procurement, construction, installation and commissioning work is carried out by engineernig, procurement and construction engineer Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI), who chose to power the new complex with Nexans’ full range of cables from 250 V to 132 kV power cables, instrumentation cables and communication cables.

Nexans Kukdong will supply a total of 3000km of medium (MV) and low voltage (LV) cables and instrumentation cables.

The cables include several innovations, such as fire resistance with water spray for all fire type instrumentation cables, enhanced foundation fieldbus cable with oil resistance, and HYPRON cabling solutions with lead-free sheath applied to LV/MV (250V-32kV) cables and instrumentation cables.

In September 2015, Nexans was awarded the first cable supply contract by HHI for delivery of 132 kV XLPE insulated three-core subsea power cable for the first phase of the Nasr Oil Field project. The cable is being manufactured at Nexans' specialized facility in Halden, Norway, and will be delivered to HHI in 2017.

The MV/LV power cables and instrumentation cables for the second phase of the offshore project will be produced at Nexans plant in Jincheon, Korea for the completion of construction in the HHI shipyard by June 2018.
