According to partner Jersey Oil & Gas (JOG), the Norwegian giant spudded well 20/05b-13 to test the Verbier prospect.

Well 20/05b-13 is on UK Seaward License P.2170, in Blocks 20/5b and 21/1d in the Moray Firth area.

JOG says that the drilling program will depend on the results of the initial well. It may include a sidetrack well, and drilling is expected to take up to 70 days.

"The Verbier prospect is estimated to have mean prospective resources of 162 MMboe and has the potential to add considerable value to our joint venture partnership," says Andrew Benitz, CEO of Jersey Oil & Gas.

"Success at Verbier could provide significant impetus for potential future exploration of the neighboring Cortina prospect within the P.2170 License area," says Ron Lansdell, JOG COO.

The Verbier co-venturers in the P.2170 License are Statoil as operator with 70%, JOG (18%) and CIECO (12%).

The three-well drilling campaign began in early July with the Transocean Spitsbergen semisubmersible.

Statoil spudded the first well in the campaign, the Mariner Segment 9 in early July. The well could prove additional resources and increase the extent of the Mariner heavy oil field.Mariner Segment 9 partners are Statoil (65.1111%), JX Nippon (20%), Siccar Point Energy (8.889%), Dyas (6%).

The rig then moved to spud the Jock Scott, a prospect on the underexplored margins of the Viking Graben, east of Shetland. Partners in Jock Scott are Statoil (75%), and BP (25%).
