Repsol Norge has awarded Archer Ltd. a four-year contract for plugging and abandonment (P&A) operations at the company’s Gyda platform in the Southern North Sea.

The scope of work includes P&A of the wells, drilling and maintenance services, engineering and downhole tool rental services on the Gyda platform. In addition to the firm contract term, three additional two-year extension options are available.

This is a testament to the hard work and commitment from all our personnel who have maintained a safe environment and a high level of operational and technical efficiency,” says John Lechner, Archer CEO. “We look forward to continuing our working relationship with Repsol Norge for the end of field life activities on Gyda.”
The Gyda field was proven in 1980 and developed by the use of an integrated steel platform at a depth of 66m. The oil is transported by pipeline to Teesside via Ekofisk. The gas is piped to the Ekofisk complex and on to Emden.
In June 2017 the Norwegian authorities approved the decommission plan for the Gyda field. The decommission scope includes permanent plugging of 32 wells on the field, removal of platform and undercarriage, as well as removal of installations on the seabed. All Gyda installations should be removed by 2023.
Repsol is the operator of Gyda with 61% interest. Partners include DONG Norge (34%), and KUFPEC Norway (5%).
