OMV to drill Barents wildcat

OMV (Norge) AS has received consent from Norway’s Petroleum Safety Authority (PSA) to drill an exploration well in block 7324/8 in the Barents Sea.

The well to be drilled, wildcat well 7324/8-3, is in a prospect named Wisting Central III. The drilling location is in the Barents Sea, around 315km north of Hammerfest, at 394.5m water depth.

The drilling is estimated to last for 31 days, and will begin in mid-August at the earliest.

The well is to be drilled by the Island Innovator semisubmersible mobile drilling facility. The facility is a Global Maritime GM4000 type, delivered by the COSCO shipyard in China in 2012. It is owned by Island Drilling, and operated by Odfjell Drilling.
