ConocoPhillips in Barossa appraisal

Published

ConocoPhillips has completed its latest appraisal well on the Barossa field in the Bonaparte basin, offshore Australia's Northern Territory.

The firm is now plugging and abandoning the well and will move to drill a second planned appraisal well, Barossa 6, according to partner Santos.

The Barossa field is being assessed as a Darwin LNG backfill project.

The Caldita-Barossa assets are within the Bonaparte Basin, located in the Timor Sea approximately 270km north-northwest of the Northern Territory.

Three wells were drilled on the permit in 2015. A new 3D seismic acquisition program was completed over both permits in 2016. Water depths within the drilling area range from 230m to 350m.
