Apache Corp. awarded Servelec Controls a contract to modify the fire and gas safety systems on the Beryl Alpha platform in the North Sea to enable the safe expansion of its current processing capability.

Apache’s new North Sea discovery, Callater, will begin producing during 2H 2017 and is of great strategic importance to both Apache, and the UK Continental Shelf, says Servelec Controls. The company says it has developed a practical and flexible engineering solution to modify the existing system and meet the ambitious timescales set for the installation.
Increasing the current processing capability of the Beryl Alpha platform requires the expansion of the complex legacy fire and gas safety system, including detection, control and extinguishing systems. The Servelec Controls modifications will enable the continuous monitoring of all equipment for the Callater subsea tieback from well head to platform and ensure the early detection and notification of any abnormal situations such as fire or combustible gas release.
“While market conditions for upstream oil and gas companies remain challenging it is vitally important that new discoveries are seen through to production for the continued, economic recovery of the UK Continental Shelf,” says Andrew Mills, Servelec Controls managing director. “Servelec Controls works closely with Apache and other major operators to provide industry-leading control and safety systems which reduce Opex, improve safety and increase efficiency.”
“Expanding the current fire and gas system in line with Apache’s ambitious timescales will help Apache meet their safety and critical infrastructure protection requirements while ensuring operational and business readiness for when the Callater well comes online,” Matt Kittle, Servelec Controls principal engineer said.
Servelec Controls also has a formal service contract with Apache for providing support and maintenance on offshore assets in the Forties field.
