Snøhvit is a gas field in the Barents Sea northwest of Hammerfest. Snøhvit has been developed using a subsea production facility. The gas is transported onshore through a 143km pipeline to Melkøya, off Hammerfest. Production at Snøhvit began in 2007.

On 15 July 2016, Statoil received consent to use the Songa Enabler mobile drilling facility to drill three wells on the field.

"We have now given Statoil consent to drill a fourth well using the same facility," the PSA said.

The well template is in 318m of water.

Drilling is scheduled to begin in mid-march 2017 and will last 65 days.
