BOEM appoints acting director

The US Bureau of Ocean Management (BOEM) has appointed Walter Cruickshank, Ph.D., as the acting director.

As deputy director, and currently acting director of BOEM, Cruickshank oversees the administration of programs that manage the development of the US’s offshore resources in an environmentally and economically responsible way. These programs include leasing, plan administration, environmental studies, National Environmental Policy Act analysis, resource evaluation, economic analysis and the Renewable Energy Program.

Prior to becoming the deputy director of BOEM upon its establishment in October 2011, Cruickshank served as deputy director of the BOEM Regulation and Enforcement (BOEMRE) and the former MMS since 2002.

Cruickshank has worked in the Department of the Interior for more than 30 years. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in Geological Sciences from Cornell University and a Doctorate in Mineral Economics from the Pennsylvania State University.
