Aker BP is considering development options for its Langfjellet discovery in the Norwegian North Sea after completing three appraisal wells on the field, according to the Norwegian Petroleum Directorate (NPD).
The discovery, initially estimated at 24-74 MMboe, was made in August by Det norske before the firm merged with BP Norway to form Aker BP. The discovery well 25/2-18 A was drilled using the Maersk Interceptor jackup drilling rig (pictured) in license 442.
Today, the NPD said Aker BP had now completed three appraisal well drilling on Langfjellet.
The wells were drilled in 121m water depth, 4km south of the 25/2-10 S (Frigg Gamma Delta) oil/gas discovery and 8km north of the shut down Frøy field in the North Sea.
Well 25/2-18 S encountered two oil columns in the Hugin formation, 30m and 86m in total, both of which had about 20m of sandstones with moderate to good reservoir quality.
Appraisal well 25/2-18 A, which was drilled 1km toward the southeast in relation to 25/2-18 S, also encountered two oil columns in the Hugin formation, 34m and 27m in total, both with about 25m of sandstones with moderate to good reservoir quality.
Appraisal well 25/2-18 B, which was drilled 1.4km north of 25/2-18 S to test the northern segment, encountered the Hugin formation with aquiferous sandstones of about 15m and 75m, both with moderate reservoir quality. The well is classified as dry, says the NPD.
Appraisal well 25/2-18 C, which was drilled 1km west of 25/2-18 S, encountered three oil columns in the Hugin formation totalling 27m, 23m and 55m, of which 15m, 11m and 10m of sandstones of moderate to good reservoir quality. A 7m condensate column was also encountered, of which 3m in sandstones of moderate reservoir quality.
Preliminary estimates place the size of the discovery between 4 and 12 MMscm of recoverable oil equivalents. The licensees are assessing the discovery along with other nearby discoveries with a view towards potential development.
The Maersk Interceptor will now move to production license PL 001B - Ivar Aasen, where the plan is for the rig to drill three water injector wells and one oil producer.
