Norway's Det norske's exploration well on the Rovarkula prospect in the Norwegian sector of the central North Sea is dry, says the Norwegian Petroleum Directorate.
The 25/10-15 S wildcat well was drilled using the Maersk Interceptor jackup, in production license (PL) 626, in Block 25/10.
The primary exploration target for the well was to prove petroleum in Upper Jurassic reservoir rocks (intra Draupne sandstone). The secondary exploration target was to prove petroleum in Middle Jurassic reservoir rocks (Hugin formation).
The well encountered a 36.5m-thick sandstone in the Upper Jurassic with moderate to poor reservoir quality and an 11m-thick Middle Jurassic sandstone with good to moderate reservoir quality. The well also encountered a 65m-thick thick Skagerrak formation with moderate reservoir quality.
The well was the first exploration well in production license 626. The license was awarded in APA 2011. Water depth is 117m. The well will now be permanently plugged and abandoned.
The Mærsk Interceptor will now move to drill wildcat well 25/2-18 S in production license 442, where Det norske is also the operator.
