Leak halts Alvheim production

Published

A hydrocarbon leak Thursday morning (28 July) aboard the Alvheim FPSO prompted a production halt at the field, according to operator Det norske.

The leak occurred in the FPSO's pump room, triggering an alarm, and stopping production. Det norske said its offshore and onshore emergency response organization was immediately mobilized. The crew onboard was able to stop the leak, and there was no discharge into the sea, the operator said.

Det norske expects normal production to return at the FPSO within the next 24 hours.

The Alvheim field is in the central North Sea, close to the UK sector. The field comprises the Kneler, Boa and Kameleon discoveries. The Alvheim field is estimated to contain total recoverable resources of approximately 90 MMboe, net to Det norske.

Earlier this month (July), Det norske reported in its Q2 earnings that production at the Alvheim FPSO remained high at 97%. Production from the tri-lateral BoaKamNorth started in May.

In December 2015, Alvheim restored production at the FPSO following an electrical fault in the high voltage drive motor for one of the gas export compressors the month before (November 2015). The motor was replaced.

Det norske operates Alvheim with 65% interest. Its partners include Lundin Norway (15%) and ConocoPhillips (20%).
