Norwegian firm Stinger Technology has developed a small remotely operated vehicle (ROV) for a client, which wanted a unit to inspect a subsea oil storage tank.
The new unit, called Nano ROV, had to be able to fly through 10in pipelines and operate in rough North Sea conditions down to 300m.
It could be used with battery or tether power, which would enable unlimited dive time and power when needed.
It has a digital front camera, with HD video capability, and analog rear camera (for backing out of tight pipes).
The firm filmed the unit's first seatrials out side its offices in Stavanger using a VideoRay Pro4 ROV observation ROV.
