Anadarko hits off Ivory Coast

Houston-based Anadarko Petroleum has successfully drilled its first horizontal deepwater well offshore the Ivory Coast.

The firm encountered 100ft net of true vertical thickness (TVT) pay on the Paon-5A well using Bolette Dolphin drillship, according to a Q1 operations report.

The company says that it is currently drilling the Paon-3A horizontal sidetrack, to be followed by a drillstem and interference test. Positive results should advance the project toward commerciality, says Anadarko. Two exploration wells, Pelican and Rossignol, are planned after completion of the Paon appraisal program, the company added.

The Bolette Dolphin is under contract with Anadarko until mid-2018. The ship had previously helped Anadarko make a discovery at its ultra-deepwater Kronos prospect offshore Colombia.

In Colombia, Anadarko reported that the Phase I acquisition of the Esmeralda 3D survey, which covers approximately 16,300sq km, was completed during Q4 2015. Phase II, covering about 13,000sq km, started during Q1. The company says another exploration well is planned for 2H 2016 in the Purple Angel block, which includes the Kronos discovery.

In Ghana, Anadarko reported that the 80,000 b/d TEN development was more than 90% complete at the end of Q1 and is on track for first oil in Q3. The TEN FPSO arrived on location in early March and subsea installations are now more than 80% complete with all flow lines installed.

In the Gulf of Mexico, Anadarko reported that the sixth Caesar/Tonga development well encountered more than 400ft net of TVT pay and is producing in excess of 8000 boe/d. The company said the the seventh Caesar/Tonga well was drilled, completed, and flow tested in Q1. The well encountered more than 500ft net of TVT pay and is expected to come online in Q2. The Phase 2 development project is moving ahead with first oil anticipated by the end of 2017.
