Quadrant Energy has encountered natural gas at its Davis-1 near-field exploration well, off the coast of Western Australia, according to joint venture partner Santos.
Davis-1 is located some 12km from the existing John Brookes platform, in WA-214-P in 108-134m water depth, and is part of Quadrant’s Outer Barrow drilling program.
The well, drilled with the Noble Tom Prosser jackup, discovered gas in its target reservoir of Maitland sandstone and has been plugged and abandoned as planned.
Quadrant plans to further develop the gas condensate reserves of the Outer Barrow region in Commonwealth waters of the Carnarvon basin in the Northwest Shelf region through the drilling of exploration and appraisal wells, which include:
WA-214-P with the Davis-1 well; WA-33-R with the Spartan-1 well; WA-55-R with the Kultarr-2 well; WA-192-P with the Scott-1 well; WA-29-L with the John Brookes-7 well; and WA13-L with the East Spar Infill-1 and East Spar Infill-2 wells.
The company is estimating to drill up to 10 wells within the five permits over the period of five years. Drilling activity began in Q1 2016.
Quadrant Energy Australia is the operator of all five permits. In WA-214-P, Quadrant holds 55%, with partner Santos holding the remaining 45%.
