JOGMEC gets Seychelles extension

Japanese exploration outfit Japan Oil, Gas and Metals National Corp. (JOGMEC) has been given more time to explore offshore the Seychelles, in the Indian Ocean offshore east Africa.

The firm has signed an extension to its joint survey agreement for the evaluation of the hydrocarbon potential offshore Seychelles with the Ministry Responsible for Hydrocarbons and PetroSeychelles.

JOGMEC has been conducting geological and geophysical surveys including seismic surveys with PetroSeychelles since 30 August 2013 under an exploration license granted by the Government of Seychelles.

While the surveys ended on 29 February 2016, an additional survey was considered necessary and the Government of Seychelles, PetroSeychelles, and JOGMEC agreed to extend the license for further two years. Based on this, JOGMEC also extended its joint survey agreement with PetroSeychelles for two more years.

In order to secure the stable supply of natural resources and energy to Japan, JOGMEC will continue to seek hydrocarbon potentials through geological and geophysical surveys as well as  create business opportunities for Japanese companies.
