The International Association of Oil & Gas Producers (IOGP) has a new chair, Monika Hausenblas, Royal Dutch Shell’s executive vice president safety and environment.
Hausenblas was elected at the February meeting of the IOGP’s management committee – IOGP’s equivalent of a board of directors. She succeeds John Chaplin of ExxonMobil.
“In the midst of cost and complexity escalation, oil price decline, climate change challenges and societal expectations, the industry’s need for an impactful voice is greater than ever,” said Hausenblas. “I am honored to have been elected the chair of IOGP at this crucial juncture in our industry’s history. I would also like to thank my predecessor for his hard work and for setting up the organization for future success.”
An Austrian, Hausenblas joined Shell in 1992, after her university studies in technical physics in her home country, followed by a PhD in solid state physics, in Grenoble, France.
In more than 24 years with Shell, she has built a strong technical foundation as a petroleum engineer, which led to a variety of leadership appointments. These have included general management as well as functional roles in profit and loss accountability; commercial; and health, safety, environmental and social performance.
Reflecting the international nature of IOGP’s remit, Hausenblas’ vice chairs on IOGP’s management committee are Michel Contie of Total and Fawaz Bitar of BP.
